Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff, Group Director of Project Development Division explained that the construction process is divided into three main components which are the advance works, facilities works and system works.
“Currently advance works are being carried out for both the Kelana Jaya and Ampang Lines. These involve the relocation of telecommunication cables, TNB low voltage (underground) cables, TNB high voltage transmission lines, water mains and sewerage pipes, as well as gas pipelines.
About 15% of the advance works for the Kelana Jaya Line Extension, and about 20% of the works for the Ampang Line Extension are completed. Nonetheless, the site possession for Gas Malaysia Relocation work is pending due to land acquisition process,” said Zulkifli
The facilities works involve the construction of the infrastructure components such as the guide way, piers and stations, as well as the casting and delivery of segmental box girders for both lines.
“For facilities works, possession of site for Kelana Jaya and Ampang Line were on 20 January and 23 February 2011, respectively. However, target to commence physical works will be at the end of March 2011 subject to approval of Development Orders and Work Permits of Local Authorities,” he said.
The project obtained sectional final approval in June 2010. For the Kelana Jaya Line Extension, the approval is to Station 10 while the approval for Ampang Line Extension is to station 11.
As such, the contract for facilities works is through two packages, A and B. For Kelana Jaya Line, package A is for facilities works from Kelana Jaya station to Station 7 which covers a distance of 9.2km. Whereas the Ampang Line package A is from Sri Petaling Station to Station No. 5 which covers a distance of 7.4 km.
“There are two main contracts (Package A and B) and more than 20 nominated sub-contract packages for each line. The contract for Package A for the Kelana Jaya line has been awarded to Trans Resources Corporation Bhd. and for the Ampang Line, the contract has been awarded to Bina Puri Holdings Bhd. and Tim Sekata. However, the tender for the facilities works under Package B will be closed for submission on 14 March 2011,” said Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff.
Package B for the Kelana Jaya Line will be from Station 7 to Putra Heights covering a distance of 7.8km. Whereas the Ampang Line covers a distance of 10.3 km which is from Station No. 5 to Putra Heights for the same package.
Prasarana also explained that the construction of an urban transport system of this magnitude will cause public inconvenience in terms of traffic, noise and dust pollution. Prasarana would like to assure the public that all appropriate measures will be taken to minimize these inconveniences.
